Jesus (a) - Children's Christmas Workshop

Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ, observed most commonly on December 25th as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world.

The celebratory customs associated in various countries with Christmas have a mix of pre-Christian, Christian and secular themes and origins. Popular modern customs of the holiday include gift giving, completing an Advent calendar, Christmas music and caroling, an exchange of Christmas cards, church services, a special meal, and the display of various Christmas decorations, including Christmas trees, Christmas lights, nativity scenes, garlands, wreaths, mistletoe, and holly. The economic impact of Christmas is a factor that has grown steadily over the past few centuries in many regions of the world turning it into an overly commercialised ‘religious’ holiday.

The purpose of this workshop is to educate our children on the Islamic narrative of Prophet Jesus (a), the origins of Christmas and its relevance to Muslims and the misconceptions held by Muslims surrounding it.

Arabic Language for Children

Arabic language for children is a course designed with the intention of producing students that are able to read, write, speak and understand. This is the ultimate objective of the course.

The course has been primarily structured for students who are between 7-14 years of age. There is a preliminary stage for 7-10 year olds and a level one stage for 11-14 year olds. Students will progress to level two where they will study Arabic in more depth with Ustadh Noor ud-Deen inshaAllah. The course will run every Saturday and Sunday with the hope that regular exposeure to the language will be of immense assistance to the student.

BJJ Luton

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a bigger, stronger, heavier assailant by using proper technique, leverage, and most notably, taking the fight to the ground.

Since its inception in 1882, its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese Jiu Jitsu by an important difference that was passed on to BJJ: it is not solely a martial art, but it is also a sport; a method for promoting physical fitness and building character in young people; and, ultimately, a way of life.

Instructor
Walid Tadjouri has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over ten years and has attained the black belt level in this art. He has won countless Gold Medals at every belt level and is well known as a formidable competitor on the UK scene.

Walid runs his own Carlson Gracie Mata Leao academies in Stratford, East London and Luton as well as still teaching every week at The Boiler Room in Hammersmith, Carlson’s Headquarters.

Daff Workshop

The daff is an instrument which is struck by the hand to form different patterned sounds together with the human voice, reciting poetry. This requires time and effort and when perfected is a real achievement.

This was practiced at the time of the blessed Prophet Muhammad abdundant peace and blessings be upon him, when he migrated from Makkah to Madinah. All of the children prepared for his entrance and when He entered, they all recited the following lines of poetry whilst playing daff:

O the White Moon rose over us
from the Valley Of Wada'
and we owe it to show gratefulness
where the call is to Allah

IHT recognises the importance of children enjoying themselves and having fun. Therefore it is imperative to facilitate services and activities of this kind to the youth of our community.
